Join us for a Virtual Writing Day at Write the Docs!

Last Updated: April 6, 2023

At Starburst, we believe documentation rules and our thriving documentation is a testament to that. We’re excited to sponsor Write the Docs along with Cloud Native Foundation, Google, Slack, Twilio, and others (see full list of sponsors)! If you are a Starburst fan, or have been following us for a while, you know we’re built on the Trino open source project and we’re passionate about contributing back to it. We’ve seen firsthand how important documentation is to the success and development of open source projects and communities. That’s why we’re delighted to show our love and support of open source and documentation by sponsoring Writing Day.

If you’re not familiar with Write the Docs, it’s a global community of people who care about documentation. Write the Docs brings everyone who writes the docs together: Programmers, Tech Writers, Support Teams, Designers, Developer Advocates, and others.

When I first found Write the Docs, I was a lone writer. I was drawn to the Write the Docs conferences and community because it gave me support, encouragement, and awesome learning experiences. I attended my first conference in 2016 and I was enamored. I’d never been in the presence of so many people who cared about what they did, wanted to get better at their craft, and help others succeed in their field. I’ve been hooked onto it ever since and haven’t missed a single one.

Now that you’re familiar with Write the Docs, let’s talk about Writing Day! It’s the first day of the virtual Write the Docs Portland and it’s open to all conference attendees. Our goal as the Writing Day sponsor is to contribute and build an environment where anyone can come, learn, and contribute to open source projects. As an attendee, you can try more than one project during Writing Day, it’s a great learning environment. It’s also a great way to meet new people and learn about the cool projects the Write the Docs community is passionate about.

From my personal perspective, I love Writing Day… In fact, it was my introduction to open source projects and culture. That’s definitely one of the reasons I’m so passionate about it, and why you’ll find me coordinating that particular event. This year I’m absolutely delighted to be joined by other members of the Starburst information engineering team including Manfred Moser, Barton Wright, Annie Elliot as well as our fearless developer advocate, Brian Olsen

We’ve made a handy video guide to help first time documentation contributors get started with Trino.

Write the Docs Portland 2021 is April 25-27, 2021 and tickets are on sale until April 22. Writing Day is held on the first day of the conference. See you there!
